We are accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship on the recently founded EU Pathfinder project ‘Hacking the ribosome to map virus-host associations (VirHoX)’. The anticipated start date will be in early 2025, with a duration of 1 year extendible to a second one based on the achieved results and a salary commensurate to candidate’s experience.
Work description
The primary goals of the postdoc will be (but not limited to):
- Setting up ribosome purification methodologies for model/non-model species, including bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes
- Setting up ribosome profiling methods to investigate viral infections, both in single species and on meta-communities
- Setting up of functional screenings, which will include the use of CRISPR-Cas system targeting RNA, target sequencing, rRNA depletion, target RNA enrichment, HTS library preparation
- Under the direction of dr. Umberto Rosani, he/she will be responsible for leading the research activities of the project and it will be also expected to make contributions to the project’s overall research agenda
Requirements
The ideal candidate will
- have a PhD in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields
- be an independent researcher with a promising research agenda
- have a strong background in molecular biology and experience in working with ribosomes
- be prompt to team-working and available to visit and interact with partner’s labs
Terms of Employment and working place
The gross salary for the grant holder will be negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience, with no teaching or administrative duties. The working place will be the department of Biology of the University of Padua, ranked among the top three Italian universities for the quality of research. The department is composed by a unique and vibrant community devoted to cross-disciplinary research in the different fields of biology.
